Baby clematis multi blue
Hi, I'm new to this forum and wanted to know about my baby clematis, multi blue, is it too late in the season to plant it out in the garden
I bought it online and planted it in a pot, so far it's doing ok, would it be better to leave it in the pot till spring next year or will it be ok to plant out now, any advice would be great
Thank you
Julie

Hi Julie - when you say 'baby', just how small is it? A decent sized plant in a deep clematis pot, with several well grown stems would be fine to plant out at this time of year. Something in a three or four inch pot with only one or two small stems would be best potted on to give it a chance to develop a good root system
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hello, thank you for the reply
It's a very small plant single stem few leafs, it looks healthy
I did pot it on to a bigger pot as when it arrived it was in a tiny pot
If I leave it in its current pot to develop further, once it gets cold should I bring it indoors, I live in central france it does get cold and rains here in winter
Regards
Juls

I did the same as you with my multi blue. I potted it on last summer and then planted it out last autumn. It's doing very well since and is really happy. I live in Yorkshire.
I wouldn't bring it into the house in the winter, but if it gets very cold where you are it might be an idea to move it into a sheltered position or ideally into a greenhouse.
