When can I move plants around?

NotyalcaNotyalca Posts: 134

I'm very new to gardening- this being the first year where I have bought my first home and turned a very boring lawn and very badly planned raised bed (which was there when we bought it) into more of a landscaped nice bright and flowery garden.. (although im not even half way finished then, I've just added some flower beds..)

Problem is, at the time, I didn't really know how stuff would grow and some plants fwhat where already there) i didn't know what they were (I have since identified them all thanks to you lot on a previous post)

BUT I made the rookie mistake of planting the garden with how the plants looked when they were small at the beginning of spring..   now everything has grown my plants don't flow and do just look shoved in....

I want it to to look like a natural untouched country garden as we are in the countryside, but my placement of things is a little off... Now that I know what colours of flowers things are and the heights the grow can I dig them up and move them now? Or is it best to wait till summer has past?

Also has anyone any tips how to make my plants and garden flow nicely and naturally?

Sometimes useful to take photos of whats growing now , as we all forget . Generally move stuff around in Autumn whilst soil is still warm from Summer .

If your border has a backing wall/hedge/fence of some kind , the general trend is to plant taller species at the back , and progress accordingly . Gardens evolve over time , numerous mistakes are made ; additional plantings of Spring/Autumn bulbs , ferns and ground covering species all add interest . Trial and error is the norm here , gardening is a learning curve ; as I said on another thread , there are no experts . Best of luck .image
