Nectaroscordum seeds

hogweedhogweed Posts: 4,053

I opened the seed pods on a single nectaroscordum plant I had expecting to find a single black seed but all I found were little white things - have I been too late and the seed has dropped or is the little white things the seed??

I fear the little white things are seed not yet ripe.

Nectaroscordum seeds , like all Alliums , should be black ; alas I fear you are too late .

Maybe this fickle 'stop/start' summer has caused them to abort ?

Good point nutcutlet ; perhaps too early for ripened seed yet ?

I've just braved the mozzies and checked mine. They're almost black but not ripe. Except for the out papery bit, the whole thing is still green and damp

a few of my Nectaroscordum grew very strangely. Instead of growing vertically, the stems grew in a twisted fashion along the ground. This also happened to a few of our Dutch Iris. Is this a diseased bulb, inconsistent watering or something else?

When the plant drops its seed is the time to sow any hardy plant. Just sow and leave them alone.

I should think 3 or 4 years to flower,
