Jaunty angles!

I planted a six foot tall crabapple tree last year and it is staked down at the bottom to stop it rocking in the wind but it has developed a little bit of a lean. Can I safely add another stake of a greater height to keep it vertical until it is more rigid and mature?

Yes, no reason why not - just be careful of large roots. if you are in a windy position, it's often better to use a longer stake from the outset.

  • Weirdly, it is leaning slightly INTO the prevailing wind...

  • Stake in place, tied in two places with the legs of a pair of tights appropriated from our lovely neighbour!

If you get caught stealing tights off lines you'll be in big trouble!!!

I too have a little tree that won't stand up. It's only about a foot high and I'm not really sure what to do. Maybe a pop sock... I'll have to wait till granny comes to visit. image

  • At this juncture I feel I should point out that the neighbour donated said undergarment!
