Persicaria problem
All the literature tells me that Persicaria Amplexicaulis has no known diseases or pests: well, some of my P.A. leaves started going brown in late May (very warm but dry spring here in SW France); I treated it with some nettle 'juice', kept it watered. Now, late June, after a very hot dry spell and now heavy rains, leaves are still browning off. Not only on the main plant (3 yrs old) but on a new rooted cutting that's 1 yr old and planted in different position.
Any help please?
thanks Carmel

I had some persicaria brown off earlier in the year, posted it on here and nothing conclusive found. Suggestions included something peeing on it and frost.
If it's any consolation, both plants have recovered. One is amplexicaulis
I tried to find the thread but no luck

What kind of soil is this plant growing in? It sounds like the plants have suffered drought conditions. They can take sun, but if the soil is very dry, they will not thrive.
Quite moisture-retaining soil but full sun which, here, means hot (with drying winds sometimes) but I do bring it extra water.
I don't think it is anything to worry about for now. If the weather is particularly hot most of the time, might be a good idea to add a layer of mulch to keep the soil cool.
Yes I know plants will shut down now & again under stress ; (though have to say am amazed how the plants are less stressed by the extreme weather than we are!) just wondered if there were any clues as to why the persicaria was wilting while all about it was standing up to all sorts. Anyway, I'll put my 'patient gardener' hat on and wait.....it certainly won't keep me awake at night.
Thanks everyone.
