Dying hawthorn hedge
Please any one advise how to get rid of fungus from our large hawthorn boundary hedge, there is no sign of aphids, although we have treated it for it just in case.

Hawthorns are seriously resilient trees/hedges once established and rarely suffer devastating fungal issues that many trees do. If the fungus is a white powdery substance on the leaves and stems it will be powdery mildew. If you can upload some pics, it would be a help to diagnose.
Water stress is the most common cause of this fungus and this Spring was incredibly dry (most of the time) in much of the UK. PM can survive in much drier conditions than most types of plant fungus and seems to have got a monopoly this year.
Fungicidal sprays will help it recover but if the leaves curl up, it may be worthwhile pruning off affected branches and discarding them in your garden waste bin, burning them or taking to a tip to prevent spore reproduction.
Thanks, we have kept watering the hedge & will continue,
what fungicidal spray would you suggest & where can i buy it from?
