Darmera peltata (Peltiphyllum peltatum) usually enjoy semi-shade ; looking at your Physocarpus on the left , and the Ligularia on the right , am I right in saying it's quite a sunny border ? The reddish coloration is a natural reaction to sunlight , and is harmless to the plant .

Yes, it's in a sunny spot Paul B3, well spotted. Thanks, I had no idea they did this in too much sun.
Mine is in a shady corner and the leaves are about 3 ft high!! I thought I had dug most of it out but it has come back with a vengeance!
I have these in a semi-shaded rockery in damp soil , the stems reach 3' high and leaves nearly 7" across .They certainly appreciate moisture .
DIG IT OUT ??? Can't have too much of this ; (hogweed , hang your head in shame)
