Planting a Rosa rugosa

We got this Rosa rugosa off the casualty shelf at the weekend - a bargain at £1.99. Quick question about trimming on planting - I will nip the bare stem in the middle right down as it isn't doing much, and I thought I would take about half off the stem at the right. I can't decide whether I should take about a third off each of the other stems, just down to the new growth, or whether at this stage in the season I should just leave it and prune it a bit in the winter.
I don't think this particular type of rose needs that much pruning and I want it to cover a fence but I do want to stimulate some growth. My trusty rose book is a bit light on this aspect of planting so grateful for any thoughts
No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.
