tatty stachys byzantina - lambs ears

I love my lambs ears, which I planted from an offset given to me a couple of years ago. However, this time of year the flowers start to fade and they are looking very straggly and a lot of the leaves were mouldy after the recent rain. I thought it would be a good idea to cut them back, but now they look even worse! Does anyone know how to keep lambs ears tidy, and whether you should cut them back after flowering? Thank you.

They always look a bit messy, but I would not be without them, particularly for the colour contrast with other plants.

I leave the flowers until they are completely over, as in my garden they are always covered in bees right until the last flower goes! Probably best to renew every couple of years - I often find a self-sown one nearby as a replacement.

Thank you - yes, the bees do seem to love them!
