Honeysuckle dying in the middle?
Hello anyone
I'm a gardening novice and would very much appreciate any advise or suggestions on some new honeysuckles I have planted in my garden.
They have been in the ground about a month and looked really healthy when brought home from the nursery. Since being planted jeu have grown flowers and the stems at the top have started to grow taller.
However despite the tops looking very healthy the middles seem to look completely dead with brown stems and leaves. But the green growth is sprouting out of what seem to be dead stems. I've attached a couple of pictures to help demonstrat
I can't see any insects or mould on them. They have had a decent drink. Any suggestions please?
Thankyou!

the stems seem really congested, did you take it off the garden centre frame or is it still attached? is it a free standing structure or is it up against a fence or wall?
the 'dead stems' are very much alive, they give are dropping their leaves as the new growth has leaves instead, (plus they're getting no light so why grow leaves that aren't going to work), honeysuckles do this, that's why most people cut them back every few years.
it just needs spreading out and letting grow free, then you can prune in winter to get it more under control (be aware though that pruning effects flowering negatively)
Thankyou very muc treehugger80 for your advice. That is really helpful.
it is still attached to the frame from the garden centre and we are looking to train it up a large pergola post and along some horizontal wires attached to the post. Would you suggest we take the frame off and fan it out across the wires? Thankyou again for your advice. Very much appreciated. As you can see I am a total beginner but having a go!
yes spread it out, the frame really was transportation only really so the sooner you get it where it needs to be planted the better.
