How often should I feed my roses please?

If they are patio roses in pots then every couple of weeks. If they are planted in the ground, then it depends on your soil. If it's clay then a good mulch of well rotted manure in Spring will probably see them alright. If you have a lighter soil, then you may need to give them a boost during the flowering season. If the leaves start to look a bit yellow it often means they need feeding.

  • Thank you raisingirl. The leaves do look a bit yellow and spotty so will give them a feed.

Sounds like you have black spot. Feeding does not necessarily remove the issues. The leaves may be dropping off into the soil. Make sure they are cleared away rather than left sitting on the tops of the soil.

The rose you are growing may be proned to developing black spot, or the plant may be planted too densely with too many other congested shrubs. Make sure the rose bush is pruned in a way not to have branches crossing over each other, and the centres are kept quite free. The air circulation needs to be good otherwise it's a breeding ground for black spot.
