Thank you Chloe! you have jogged my memory completely with September Charm and Jobert. (I prefer the white too) didn't realise the pink was so much of a thug! The pink one which started to crisp is sited between the garage and a fence and only gets sun from midday until around 5pm - perhaps that is still too much? The white one is in a similar situ. To be fair they have been in a large pot each for around 8 years and have always done really well! Personally I think my BIL was right to suggest a pot as I may be like some of the other gardens on this site whose gardens have become overrun with them. My BIL is not a big fan of them as he likes a more formal garden with box edges etc. Think he despairs of my cottage style / overgrown approach. Thank you to everyone for all your comments and advice - much appreciated.
