It looks like Virginia Creeper ... Parthenocissus quinquefolia
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It looks like a climbing Hygrangea. A wild guess, it could be Hygrangea Anomala Petriolaris.

It does look like climbing Hydrangea to me as well if you look carefully at the picture you can see flower buds appearing.
Doesn't look at all like Hydrangea petiolaris to me ... leaves and habit all wrong and hydrangea pet. doesn't have tendrils as in the photo.

Virginia creeper has small inconspicuous flowers followed by small berries, looking just as the ones in Rob's photo

If it helps, it's making its way rapidly along a fence and because I was fascinated by the word "quinquefolia" I looked it up - my plant has 5 leaf(lets). I don't think it flowers and I think it turns reddish in autumn, all of which fits the virginia creeper I think, but I could be convinced otherwise!

That description is definitely Virginia Creeper and not Hydrangea. I guess I was thrown by the dark foliage. Also, apologies in the bad spelling of Hydgrangeas!
Parthenocissus ; Hydrangea petiolaris should be in flower now.
Oops sorry I thought the stem with tendrils on was maybe a vine close by, didn't mean to give you the wrong info. I quess we are learning all the time.
