Heather question

Last summer I was given a container with some heather and ivy in it. The heather is growing well with lots of tall new green growth on it. The problem is the wee white bobbly bots are missing from the new growth. I'm unsure if I should give it a trim back , replant it away from the ivy or just wait and be patient and the white bobbly bits might appear? So sorry for not having pics but I'll get them up on Monday when the glitch is over with.  Any advice appreciated

    Yes i seen to have half flowering and half green thanks
