Lovely to see...I think number 5 might be Allium Vineale.

  • I am not sure Borderline - I was given the possible name of Allium Roseum, I will look up Vineale.

  • Yes, it certainly is Vineale Borderline - thanks for correcting me Borderline. There was just the one small clump on the grassy verge alongside the beach.

    Samphire is very tasty, apparently

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Guernsey Donkey, it's nice to see many of our garden plants in their more natural habitat. A case of right plant in the right place.

  • Yes it certainly is Borderline, and these plants are left to naturally develop.  There are so many "wild areas" on the island where the cows are left to graze the overgrowth and with very little human management these plants can thrive in peace.

Samphire - I have been told that there are many varieties including rock and marsh - some are more tasty than others.  I won't be tasting them, but may collect a few specimens for our neighbour who has a stronger stomach than I.

Ses my local flora page for allium vineale at http://www.rezeau.org/wp-flore/allium-vineale-l/

Nice pics, GD2, so many interesting plants and insects in the wild!

Samphire is considered a delicacy on the West coast of France.  I've tasted it and not found it terribly interesting, I must say.

  • Yes, we have bought jars of Samphireit home from French holidays in the past.  It's a question of finding the right type, which is said to be tasty.  Thanks for the allium link.
