It's Dierama Pulcherrrimum, Angel's Fishing Rod.

Looks like a form of Angel's Fishing Rod to me - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=4449

  • Gosh that was quick, and thanks - I have looked at the link Obelixx - it did look exactly the same - the plant was quite striking in appearance and certainly worth having.

Not an easy plant to grow.  I've tried from seed and whilst I got good germination, not one made it t adulthood.

Obs, I had some seed too , but read it can take up to 7 years to flower.

Life is too short for that sort of commitment. image

  • I have a number of varieties which put on a good display. They seem to be unfussy but rather slow, so buy decent sized plants rather than growing from seed.

They are bulbs so, like any bulb, they do take a long time from seed.  I grew them on in 15cm pots for two years then planted them in my borders last year.  This year 3 out of 6 have decided to flower. image

It grows like a weed in my garden. Seeds itself. I grow it beside my pond in full sun and gravel.

  • Yes, it would make a great plant alongside a pond Hogweed - you must show us the pictures of your plant in flower if you can.   If I do buy it in the future I will try the bulbs or established plant rather than seeds.  It is so pretty and delicate looking and I hadn't noticed it in flower in previous years.
