Cherries

Does anyone know why the Cherry trees in my local park only fruit every other year.

I couldn't say why they would do it consistently, do they only flower every other year?

Some fruit trees will have a poor yield if the previous one was big; some cherry trees can flower twice in one year; perhaps the timings of frosts were just coincidental and the buds were damaged.

  • Thanks for the response. Yes they flower every year but the fruit dies back just as it starts to grow. This year all the trees (around 50 ) have lots of fruit but it does only seem to be every other year and has been for many years.
