Does anyone know why the Cherry trees in my local park only fruit every other year.

I couldn't say why they would do it consistently, do they only flower every other year?
Some fruit trees will have a poor yield if the previous one was big; some cherry trees can flower twice in one year; perhaps the timings of frosts were just coincidental and the buds were damaged.
Thanks for the response. Yes they flower every year but the fruit dies back just as it starts to grow. This year all the trees (around 50 ) have lots of fruit but it does only seem to be every other year and has been for many years.
