Verbena colours

I recently planted 24 verbenas and about half of them have two sets of completely different coloured flowers, and two or three have three different coloured flowers. I thought perhaps they were 2 or 3 plants clumped together but I checked carefully and they are definitely the same plant.

Is this usual? I didn't know such a thing could happen.
