Runner Beans

Hi My runner beans are at the top their canes 7ft,is it best to top them off or to leave them. will topping off promote new growth from bottom and sides.

    I nip the tops out as otherwise they get totally jumbled and top heavy.  Nipping the tops out doesnt stop that happening, but it slows it down a bit image

    Top them off and it will promote new growth from bottom and sides.

    I pick mine out when they're small, just like any other plant from seed, they thicken out right from the start then.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor. 

  • Thanks folks I've just been out and chopped all the heads off, hears for a good crop.
