Shrub ID?
in Plants
Hi there,
Can anyone help me identify this plant. I'm hoping I can cut it back a little but obviously need to know what it is first. Apologies for the upsidedown image
Thanks
Jon

A closer pic might help of the leaves and the flowers.
Hi hogweed
Here you go!
I think hogweed meant stand a little closer to the bush to take the photo
In the sticks near Peterborough
is it some kind of climber or creeper?
No, it's around 3m high by 3m spread. We've been in the house for 3 years and when we first moved in it was more 2 x 2 and a "round" shape. It's now grown from that with arching branches.
Possibly Linnaea amabilis?
Very difficult to tell from the photgraph, but going by the leaf and flower it looks like an Escallonia Rubra because of the size and habit.

I think that's it! It's just gotten a little out of control so I'm hoping I can get some advice on how to prune etc. I actually like it with the arching branches and wouldn't want to go back to it's more manicured form, but like I say, just needs some "direction".
Thanks so much for the responses, very helpful indeed.
You may prune after the main flowering, but because of the recent weather being quite hot, it's possible that you had the first flush very early and it ended quickly. There may be more sporadic flowering throughout this month still. Ideally, if you want to control it, you can start now or in the next four weeks, but you are cutting off possible flowers for the next month or so. Just cut to around a third of the current length. Or you can remove dead or diseased growth and cut as you please. They will recover.
Escallonia Macrantha?
Do the leaves have a kinda pineapple scent when crushed?
