Difficult to paint a country of over 330 million with the same brush... doubt people here would agree that folk from England, Wales, Scotland and Norn Iron are particularly similar.
Aw bless 'em. In the interests of balance we should point out that many British people when travelling appear to have the IQ of a golf ball.
I hear it is quite the height of elegance for the traveling British gentleman to salute a fellow British traveler with a raised can of Carling's finest beverage and the traditional salutation "oi oi saveloy". Many a Mediterranean holidaying resort is blessed with these British literati on such cultural exchanges. Ambassadors to the country every one of them.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
An old chap I used to know had lived and worked in the USA in his youth. He met a man who, hearing an unfamiliar accent, asked Eddie where he was from, and he said "England". "And how long have you been in America?". "Three weeks.". "Gee! How'd you learn our language so fast?". I was once travelling by train and ferry from London to Dublin, and a group on holiday from the US was sitting near me. Half way along the north Wales coast, one of them turned to me and asked, "Are we in Scotland yet?".
I've been twice to the US, once for a few days to attend a conference on the east coast, and once for a three week visit to my OH's relations in California and Oregon. I had a great time and there was a lot that really impressed me.
That's really good B. Onion I'm sure you know we 're all simply having a little joke. Here in Scotland, we're regularly subjected to the traditional view that we all wear kilts all the time, and have no electricity or running water - apart from the stuff that comes out of the sky, and live on a diet of Irn Bru, deep fried Mars bars, chips and fags
wild edges - that made me laugh out loud. Try visiting Glasgow Airport at 'holiday time'. It's awash with 'traditional Glaswegians' heading to the Costa del Sunshine, complete with football top, gold chains, and the 'new holiday trainers' from Sports Direct. Makes me proud
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
My advice would be to avoid warfarin based poisons or other anticoagulants...they don’t work terribly well and some rats are developing resistance. Get some heavy duty /professional grade poison like Neosorexa Gold or bromethalin. Unlike the anticoagulants, they kill after one feed rather than requiring multiple visits to the bait station before taking effect. Just be very careful to place the bait traps where pets can’t get at them.
