Nasturtium invasion
Hi all, its the first year ive sown nasturtium & theyve grown fast & f!owering like theres no tommorow. BUT they appear to be a blackfly magnet! Ive been spraying them with water & a few drops of washing up liquid {cant remember where i originally discovered this}. Yet to see an improvement, but im optimistic.
Is this the best plan, or are there any other wildlife friendly solutions?

I turn the leaves over and rub off the blackfly but it's a never ending job. The trick is not to have too many of the plants. I think that some gardeners grow them as sacrificial plants to keep the flies off their veg. Maybe it works. I don't know.
Caterpillars ate mine ,I don't bother with them now
I have exactly the same problem. Didn't have this issue previous years. Could be the sudden high rainfall recently. Up until then, there was no sign of them. I have just left it as it is to see what happens. I think that if you grow them in soil too rich, which is what I have done, it is far more susceptible to this kind of attack.
