Apricot tree problems

We moved into our house about 4 years ago, the garden has an apricot tree that has obviously been there for many years. Last year we noticed some sap and blackening around some of the branches. This year after the blossom it appears that one or two of the branches have died.

Google tells us thats either a bug or fungus - most likely the fungus as we can't see any signs of bugs.

What can we do with it? Can it be treated or do we need professional help? If so who do we call (based in north kent).

Many thanks for taking the time to read :)

It does sound like you may have bacterial canker. If this is the case, it's best you start pruning off the affected areas, and make sure it's pruned off at least a foot down from the affected areas. The cuts need to be treated with a pruning sealer afterwards. The bark is very vulnerable. The tree will need to be sprayed with copper fungicide after that, and repeated treatment will be very likely.
