Bread bean has blown path on step and blackfly

My broad beans had blackfly which I have spray and they dead now. However, now I have noticed some large brown marks on the stem grrr!

Are they done for? Why is this happening? And can you eat the beans or are they inedible now?

To be honest it is most off putting and I don't fancy them at all.... First time I have grown any veg ever so totally clueless please help!

If the spray used  was a chemical to kill the blackfly then I would not advise eating the beans. You should not use such sprays on edible plants like fruit or veg.

Broad beans often get blackfly at the tips and the simplest remedy is just to pinch the tips out, or you could hose the blackfly off  with water. Neither of these things would harm the beans.

  • Thank you guys! I used a spray designed for veg and fruit and I am not going to eat the outside pod but it was off putting... I have a brown patch on the stem also... Any idea what this is? Are the beans ruined?
