Does anyone know what this weed is called?

It is taking over my garden and the neighbourhood!

(It grows to about 30 cm high).

Many thanks

Sue.

Horsetail or marestail. It has a coating that makes it resistant to weedkiller, and roots that go down miles. You have to trample the stems, spray with glyphosate. You may need to repeat several times in the growing season. The only other way is to pull it every three days.

horse tail or mare's tail.  The roots go down for metres so you can't dig it out.   Very hard to eradicate but will give in if you pull up every scrap the minute you see it's big enough to grab.  Do not put any on the compost heap, especially roots, as the tiniest scrap will make a cutting and grow.
