Top up or partial change pond water?

My pond is losing water in this heat and have just topped up.

Would it be a good idea to do a partial water change (how much) every now and then?

I have not changed any water since March, just topped up.

The pond has a solar air stone pump if that makes a difference.

A pond shouldn't need the water to be changed ... that is unless you're keeping Koi.

We've topped ours up but never changed the water ........ we strive to keep a healthy  population of the tiny creatures that..should be in a pond ... changing the water would upset that and we'd have to start all over again.

As Dove says it's all about balance.
I've got a koi pond and a w/l pond. There's no point in having plants in a koi pond (lily being one of the few exceptions) as they eat everything and knock pots over. I've got a substantial filter but the pH does creep up due to the lack of plants and tap water being around pH8 here. When the sun evaporates quite a bit of water too in the summer more topping up is needed and the pH creeps higher still. So I change about 10% every week or so.
If your pond is well planted  then topping up shouldn't be a problem as the plants will use up the calcium and other minerals that make water hard - and life will be bliss :)

Thanks.I have never done a big water change other than when I clean the pond in spring.

The plants are growing well, especially the water lily.I have had to treat the fish for fungus this year (lost at least 3 fish image ).Never had it before but remaining fish seem OK now.

Water is a bit green and brown but I think a lot of that is down to the hot weather, this time last year it was crystal clear!
