Foxglove mutation

PhilippPhilipp Posts: 7

Hi,

we have a lot of foxgloves in our garden in northern Germany. This year we found one that looked a little different. It has a big beatutiful flower all the way on the top.

After some research we found out that this is called an aberrant peloric terminal flower caused by a double resessive gene.

We were pretty amazed by this little wonder of nature.

Is this a common thing? Because we had both never seen one before.

I heard that sometimes the next generation also has such a flower... we will see.

Happy gardening.

Phil

We had some photos of similar flowers posted earlier this year ... It seems that Digitalis are quite prone to various mutations. A few years ago we had one with variegated leaves ... but this was not repeated in following generations.

Unfortunately this site has a glitch at the moment ant photos aren't uploading ... Hopefully the tech team will sort it tomorrow.
