What is wrong with my potato
Hi - This is my first post and also my first year trying to grow vegetables so I’m very much still learning the ropes.
In the attached photos the potatoes seem to have become deformed and also covered in some kind of skin defect. I’ve done some searching and I can’t really work out if is some kind of scab or something else altogether.
The problem has only affected about half the crop in my last two pots of potatoes (out of a total of ten pots). I did wonder if maybe I'd left them in too long since I started pulling these up about 5 weeks ago.
Would anybody be able to assist in identifying what is wrong with the potatoes in the photos?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul

I'm probably missing something simple but I don't appear to be able to upload photos. I little icon appears but not the photo.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Paul

Paul, it seems there is a bug uploading photos this weekend - the GW web team should sort it when they return on Monday. For now, you could try uploading to a photo-hosting site and posting the link if you don't want to wait.
Many thanks for that. I was really starting to wonder what I was doing wrong there. I've taken your advice and added the photos to a gallery below.

That does look like a pretty severe case of scab to me. It is made worse by alkaline conditions. If you used bagged compost, this usually contains lime which won't help. It is likely that your seed potatoes were already infected though - low levels of scab are permitted. I would change my seed supplier next year if I were you.

Thanks for that, very helpful.
