Avocado from seed

Judith FJudith F Posts: 9

I have grown 2 avocados from seed and one in particular is now about 8 inches high.  I read somewhere that I should cut off this lead shoot but don't really want to do it as the lower leaves are really tiny.  Has anyone else grown them and can give me advice, please?

A pic would help, but it sounds like you're considering removing the sole growing tip of the plant without there being any true leaf joints beneath it. If you do, It'll die. I may have read your post wrong though..

We're moving to southern Spain shortly to an area where they grow them commercially outdoors, so hope mine will end up fruiting!

Can you tell me when you potted them on - the taller one has plenty of small roots as well as the main one, and it keeps falling over from it's glass of water?

Time it was on solid food. It can't live on water for long

Will it be ok if I plant it in compost I've made or do I need fertiliser as well?

Mine is coming up to a year old and I nipped off the tip after a few months when around 6 inch tall.

Couldn't be happier with it at the mo.

Pic not uploading.  Will try again later
