DIY Planter

Hi, I have made a 3metre long planter for my chillies and have lined it with black bin bags that I have stapled into place. Will this be suffice? I am worried that the soil inside and plants will sweat? Does anyone else use black bags as liners?

I use empty compost bags (which are usually black inside) and some have been in place for a decade or more.  No problems.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Yes. I line hanging baskets with coir matting then cut up a black compost bag to line it with inside, remembering to poke some holes in the bottom.

    10ft of chili's!!!!! yikes

I used builder's rubble bags. They've been in a few years now. I didn't bother with holes as the water gets through where they overlap.

I think ordinary kitchen type ones - even taste the difference top of the range ones -would be a bit flimsy.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

Brilliant.  Thanks for reassuring me. It is a bit flimsy but it's not the end of the world if they split as I can't see the planter for lasting to many years anyway.

I don't actually eat many chillies.  My guts can't take it. I just like growing them for thier display :)

I do like chili's but I also think they are very pretty, so like you I grow them for looking at as well as eating

    That was 2015 I think.

I've still got bags of them in the freezer!

I'm just growing jalapenos this year. Overall their my fave - not too hot and with a good flavour.

I'll have another go with Suprchili next year - I've got enough in the freezer to keep me going
