Have you got any in focus pics of the plant still standing?
In the sticks near Peterborough
I'm probably completely wrong here , but this bears a close resemblance to my Phytolacca americana (N.American pokeweed) ; the image is indistinct so not quite sure !
himalayan balsam
Thought I was mistaken as soon as I posted a reply ; pretty but invasive.
I thought it might be but was put off by the white sap. I haven't handled any lately but don't remember that

Himalayan balsam doesn't have white sap. However that pic does bear some resemblance to it.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Could it possibly be Asclepias (Milkweed)?? ; does anyone out there know ? Have any flowers been seen on this plant at any time ?
good, I thought I would have remembered that. It was only those bits of red root that brought it to mind. I think this will be a tricky one due to the limp state of the specimens

Have to admit i looked at the pics and hadn't noticed there was writing underneath ( it was late and there had been wine), the white sap has me stumped!
