Are the old leaves meant to go mankey after the plant has flowered?

I've dead headed and dead leafed it. Young leaves look fine.

I've just pulled a load of really dried dead leaves off one of my geums but they were last years.  I usually just deadhead them and the leaves are usually OK.  I'm expecting them to continue flowering for months yet.

Yeah mine has mankey yellowing leaves too. I spent ages on Saturday tidying it up, removing said leaves and dead flower stalks.  No sign of more flower stems and buds yet, will feed it tomorrow.  It gets very thirsty even though Im soaking it daily.
