Tomato advice

Just wondering if anyone can help. I have three tomato plants growing in a large veg planter. They are doing well but have a lit of green leaves with only one plant showing signs of flowers. Is there anything I can do or is this normal for this time of year. ?

Many thanks, Rachel.

    four questions.

    inside (polytunnel, greenhouse) or outside?

    how big is the container?

have you pinched any side shoots out?

    what varieties are they?

Outside, pinched side shoots, gardeners delight variety. Possibly put too many plants in? There's 3 and a cucumber. Might have been to ambitious!!

Pot is too small for three plants. Is that a cucumber there too? The leaves look different.

    too many plants!

I would have put one tomato or the cucumber in there.

You can still remove two of the tomatoes and move them to other containers. Try and get a decent chunk of root ball on them if you can, but tomatoes are fairly resilient to transplanting, even at a large size.

Packing them in like that not only reduces yield (as they're all fighting for water and nutrients) but can also lead to fungal infections as the air can't move around them well.

You say that but I had the exactly the same set up last year with indeterminate cherry tomatoes (3 in each bag) and all done well and produced lots of fruit. The only ones that didn't was the large San Marzano that failed miserably. I would say have the cucumber somewhere else though and pull out the suckers on the toms! Keep them regularly watered.
