Apple tree leaf disease identification
Hi there
It is a cooking apple tree which is 4-5 years old. I did apply general purpose balanced fertiliser to the surrounding soil in March.
The leaves as in the picture are a blotchy yellow with a cracky but not dry texture
Is this something to be concerned about?
Is it a disease or a mineral deficiency?
Thanks
Daniel

Thanks Pansyface for the swift reply
Looking at the link it says nutrient imbalance is a likely cause so is it worth getting my soil tested?
I grow vegetables in the same bed so will they be affected?
The surrounding soil was manured/double dug last October if that may affect it and I applied a general purpose balanced fertiliser this March. Could i have applied it incorrectly?
Thanks
Daniel
Or should i buy a new apple tree?
If you buy a new apple tree and plant it in the same place without sorting out the problem and understanding what went wrong, you're just going to get a repeat of the same.

This is probably the problem - an apple tree won't appreciate having its roots messed about. If you must grow it in a vegetable bed consider a no-dig system with minimal soil disturbance.
So if messing with the roots has caused it, will the apple tree recover on it own? Or do i need to do something to help the roots recover
I would water and mulch with some home made compost or well rotted manure then leave it alone ... leaving a circle of at least 1 metre diameter clear of any planting or cultivation.
Just ensure that it's well watered in dry spells.
