Lovely to see those goldfinches Zenjeff. Never see them in gardens round here - saw a couple at my previous house round the corner, but it was a one off. Too much grub for them over in the NT garden across the road I reckon.
They're really pretty little things Liri. Goldcrests and Siskins! Haven't seen the goldcrests here this winter at all.
Nice box Hosta. I should really do something similar - I've got plenty of offcuts of timber
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think all the goldfinches are in the North East this winter last year most I saw at any one time was 4 this morning there was 12 on the rowan tree which I have feeders hanging and another 3 on the bird table , or it could be that I've added sunflower hearts to the menu as well as Niger seeds the sunflower hearts seem to be there favourites good job there cheap at wilkos
I've never seen them regularly in any garden I've had. Rural, semi rural - different locations, although all west of Scotland. Not really sure if they're just not as common here, or whether it's down to the food supply and where it is. I do use sunflower hearts in my feeders.
I'm loathe to invest in them but perhaps I should give one of the niger feeders a go and see if I can tempt them in

The Goldfinches on our niger seed knock more to the ground than they eat!! we get Wood Pigeons then they don't eat all that's dropped. I'll put a feeder out with sunflower hearts for them as well.
Made friends with a new woodpecker today. He sat for the longest time in the bush right beside me but wouldn't jump onto my hand until I turned around. After that he was OK with me seeing him fly to my hand.

If you're anywhere near a Notcutts garden centre they're selling various bird nesting boxes 2 for the price of one during February.
Some nice wooden ones with slats roofs and easy-clean based £14.99 for two.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
A siskin on my sunflower seeds this morning - first I've seen this year
But no further sightings of the goldcrests. Pity.

Are you north east England Zenjeff?

Trust you Hosta....

That's what worries me Firecracker. Being a Scot - I don't like the idea of spending money on something if it goes to waste....
