Romania has the largest untouched forest in Europe so the ecosystems there are pretty amazing. Sadly like everywhere else in the world people are trying to pulp the lot and turn it into money.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I hope your dog has some little sheepskin boots. minus 5 in bare feet, brrr.
@fidgetbones, she's a Border Collie with furry pads. She's much happier in the cold than the warm, we put foot balm on her feet aswell, it helps keep the pads soft and stops cracking.
I think it was gardeners World last night where someone said the UK has lost 50% of its species in the last century, more than any other country in Europe. Maybe we should be concentrating on our wildlife instead of Pandas and Gorillas.
I invested in a game camera to track a local coyote pack last summer, and had bonus footage of raccoons, porcupine, owls, hawk, ravens, crows, and whitetail deer. I didn't put it back out this year until late summer and I've been sad to find less activity this year. In October I did manage to catch a doe in the pasture. At least she looks healthy.
I'd forgotten to reset the date stamp after the batteries died, so ignore the 2020...it was mid-October 2022.

I had a wonderful wildlife moment today …. we were walking our dog in some woods on the edge of Dartmoor and a Robin started following us, which isn’t too unusual, but it got really close so I took a dog biscuit out of my pocket and threw a few crumbs onto the ground and the Robin gobbled them up. I then stretched out my arm and held my hand out with more crumbled up dog biscuit and for the next 15 minutes he ate out of my hand. He even let me take my glove off and get my phone out and take photos!! Absolutely amazing experience, I’ve been smiling all day. I wonder if he’s learnt to beg from dog walkers or he was willing to take the chance as he was so hungry?
A lovely little flock of fieldfares appeared right in front of me when I was out yesterday. Enjoying the hawthorn berries. No photos unfortunately, as it's a bit of a faff taking the camera. Might take it today though. Of course - they'll never appear if I do that....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Are they about the size of a thrush @Fairygirl? If so, we might have had one yesterday sitting in our magnolia tree near the bird feeders. I wondered what it was.
Was very amused yesterday to also see one lone goldfinch munching away in the back garden on verbena bon. seedheads I hadn't got around to cutting down. All the others were round the front at the birdfeeders!
Yes- they're members of the thrush family @Lizzie27. There's also redwings, which are not dissimilar if you only get a glimpse. They're a bit smaller and finer, and the name suits - they have a it of red colouring along the wings. We have both here, but the fieldfares only come into the garden when the winter gets going properly - January/February. Both of them are present in the nearby fields an hedging etc. These are from early 2019

Superb! Thanks.
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
