Yes, we've done a lot of work with the trainer since Dudley came to us from the RSPCA in January. He's pretty good at the 'leave' command but I'm guessing whatever he ate was when he was off the lead and we didn't see him.
Poor little Dudley, he looks so sweet, I hope he is getting better.
I trained my Border Collie to wait for permission before eating. He was very good. I've probably said this before but I was so proud of him! A local farmer left a joint of venison on the little table by the kitchen door when I was out shopping. I came home to find Tigger sitting on the door mat. He hadn't touched it.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
DH - my dogs behave differently off lead too. Only obey when it suits them which is most of the time but not when they've spotted a deer or a hare. Recall only works then when they've run out of puff. They never catch anything and are, fortunately, too busy running to eat strange things - so far.

Just picked Dudley up from the vets where he has been since first thing this morning. He started having sickness and diarrhoea over the weekend and really deteriorated over night. I stayed with him in the kitchen all through the night as he had to go out pretty much every 10 minutes or so. He's been on a drip and several injections and medications through the day. They thought he would be better off at home for the night and still has his cannula in as they plan on putting him back on the drip again tomorrow. Poor little lad.
I've just looked in. Sorry about Dudley and glad that he's on the mend. It's very difficult to stop dogs eating things. I always have ours on lead, but even then you have to be quick before they pick it up. Barley's like that, especially if he finds bread, tissues aswell. But he's growing out of it now. A dog up the road from us, was taken ill, he was on drips and a special diet for a few months. It took a few months to get better fully, they don't know what it was.
Poor Dudley, all our 3 german wire haired pointers had bad tummies and all had to have meds. The vet said they had seen lots of it about recently, it had floored some poor dogs ☹️ Hope Dudley on the mend now
Gorgeous kitties. Cosmos started out all fluffy like that but now, at 13 months, is quite sleek tho his fur still feels a bit rough compared to Minstrel who is a couple of months older and was always sleek and shiny.
