Hmmm, id forgotten I'd posted that photo last night...
I've never planted a foxglove, they just chose to live in my garden a couple of years ago. The gorgeous white one appeared last year and I've been holding my breath waiting to see if it would return. Sure enough she's here again along with a couple of sisters, and some purple cousins.
Nut - so purpurea doesn't just mean the purple ones then? A lot to learn...
Digitalis purpurea is the species, albiflora is a whiteform, there are loads of cultivars, Exelsior hybrids, sutton's Apricot, all sorts but they're all from the wild Digitalis purpurea.
Those Illumination Pinks are a hybrid between this and an Isoplexis from the Canary Islands, hence not so hardy.

Lovely pics again all. Saw a totally white foxglove on the way to work last night and fell in love........
I am not 100% on this, but i think any that contain purple will be called purpurea, so in this instance the footprints are purple.
I think the exact name for it is "digitalis purpurea albiflora" its featured in July's GW magazine.
