Gfantic- love the first pic and the last two in particular- what variety is the Iris? Very similar to Night Owl which is my big fave. I have a few which I rescued from last house but they're all crammed in a pot and not likely to flower till I get them split up. It's really realy purple/black. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Gardeningfantic, I love your garden. Birdy's peonies are such a fabulous colour, think I've said both those comments before, but it's still true!

As for Deano's veg garden it's so tidy and beautiful. Mine's a mess. Here's mine, more advanced, but it is France - even though this spring has been fairly awful.

I use permeable fabric to keep the weeds down, can't cope with the veg and the flowers otherwise and weeds here are very vigorous! Did you know it takes 5 weeks for groundsel to get from seed to full-flowering maturity? And groundsel isn't a particularly difficult weed.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Gardeningfanitic you have a beautiful garden. Love the treestump.

Birdy that is a great colour.

Lizzie you seem to have so much veg growing.

I really love seeing everyones pics

But Deano, your garden is so beautifully kept and tidy. How do you have time if you are working? I'm retired and my veggie garden is a bit of a mess.

Deano, your veg area is really delightful and I can see how much work you've put into its design, build and tending. My veg plot is not even half as nice

Gardenfantic, every year get's better at your place image I can see how its maturing and how on earth do you keep those lawn edges so perfect?image

Busy-Lizzie, as always, your garden makes me wish I lived in France...oh wait..I wish I did before then. I will retire there one day...image

Keep up the great postings on this thread everyone...I'm loving them all! xx

thank you everyone for the comments.. it is nice to have your hard work appreciated.

birdy.. the iris is a very large bearded iris.. stands 5ft tall and each stem as 8 buds on it.. i do not know the name.. as was given to me... it is a very dark black purple with yellow tongue... and the flower head is very large (cant make it out in pic) put compared to my otehr bearded irises it is large..

the features are there as i like them when the plants have died down.. and the circles are to take away from the bordem of straight up and down garden.. over time i want to be able to wlk round them all and see what is lurking round next bend.image

yes the lawn will not be missed by o/h as he hates cuting round the beds.. and gets to close at times i can tell ya.. also i think the gravel and bark will make it easier to look after as the beds grow in sizeimage

wintersong.. the edges.. well a long time with the edging shears.. and even longer going roudn picking up all the trimmings to.. before they root.

busy lizzie.. i love your garden me ideal it seems very tranquil and restful.. which is what it is all about... sitting and enjoying it after a hard slog that day.

i am amazed at  how fast everything has come on.. as said hte grass will be bark by this time next year.. as it is mud during winter normally.. so much easie to get out there and do work on it.
