Planted out my sweet peas. Only 12 of my original 36 that I asked about germinated. I sowed more, about half of them have come up. They have been in a cold frame for the last 2 weeks. 18° today, sunny. Looked happier in the cold frame, don't think they liked the windowsill.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
You're welcome, Louat......just try a few 'cordons' as it is a lot of work (or am I losing my enthusiasm?) You'll find the variety 'Cupani' has the strongest scent & is the daddy of them all.
Btw, it's perfectly normal for the stems to grow shorter as the season progresses. I've always found that sowing seed from specialist growers provide the best stems.
I have planted out the first lot Louise as they weren't getting enough light (with not having my GH ready!). In hindsight maybe I should have waited. Anyway,mi am now planning direct sowing if some others I ordered and that will be done this weekend
Just been for a quick check and they are a little wind swept after last night, the twigs don't seem to be doing their job properly But they are ok, stood them back up and noticed they are starting to get shoots at the bottom so 'bushing out' which will hopefully make them stronger. Thankfully, most of them are in the veg patch where the hounds can't dig
I'll report back on direct planted ones when (if) they are successful

This thread is getting a tad weighty now and it's becoming apparent that some useful information is inaccessible because of being too far back.
Please let me know if you would like me to start another one.
I won first prize! My husband must have bribed the judges!! The note from the judge commended the smell and marble look. Funny old world.
