Paraffin Heater

I've just brought a Valor Viceroy 151 MK2 paraffin heater for the greenhouse, cost £10 from facebook sale page which is a bargin i think but need some help with it. I've only started to get into growing plants for my garden and never used a paraffin heater. On the heater there is a sticker that says the flame should be blue but mine when lit is blue and yellow. Is this normal or is there something else i need to do.

  • I used a paraffin heater for several years and was quite satisfied with it.   You can try turning down your wick a little bit, that usually helps to control the colour of the flame.

  • New to gardening and greenhouses Wills, i have the heater on low and this morning it was freezing outside but 9-10 inside. Just thought it would be good to keep the greenhouse frost free.

  • Greenhouses can be as cold as the outside, so a heater is still needed until April. Worst thing is to have lots of seedlings going and you get a late frost that kills them - has happened to me. I also use a paraffin heater as my GH is too far from my house for electricity. I only put it on when below -2C is forecast.
