Got to disagree Claire and that is why this thread has nearly 400 posts and 11000 viewings, we all have our own idea's about it. It is now a dance competition may be the winner will be the most acrobatic or not they will still need to dance. I also watched for many years the Come Dancing programme's and we would still argue over the performance, a bit like snooker or tennis you either love  or hate it, never did understand what the point was of watching a ball being knocked over a net?

I was a dancer when little, my daughter's danced around their hand bags as it was the done thing at the time, Mum and I were old hat dancing with arms around each other, now they are paying out large sums of money to learn Mum and Dad dancing so they do not miss out on their cruising and Holiday fun, they all argue with me about who should or should not still be there, I play back and point out the foot faults which they now understand. Certainly a lot of people watch the entertainment element for the first few weeks including me, now it is serious and a DANCE competition ask Len, feel free to disagree.

    Frank.

  • oh dear!!

I think it is a light entertainment programme at the end of the day. Len is acting like its a serious competition which it really isn't, and an awful lot of people have called for him to leave, which he will, like Bruce did.

Part of the older generation I suppose !!

Never mind we all have different opinions no need for a falling out lets try and keep it light hearted no one needs to get upset!

I don't see why it can't be a dance competition and entertaining but if it is going to be a competition the judges have to obey the rules as well as the competitors and they shouldn't have been so lenient with earlier transgressions.  Scoring has been fat too high from the start and they now have nowhere to go after giving all those early 7s, 8s and 9s.

Len is the only one with real ballroom experience as a competitor, judge and teacher and quite rightly likes to see certain basic steps.  The others have been successful dancers and/or choreographers but that does not make them experts in ballroom although Craig does nit pick very well on technique and his scoring is usually the most pertinent.

Ballroom includes 5 standard and 5 latin dances, all of which have strict rules for tempo, footwork, posture and lifts.  There are none allowed in the 10 ballroom dances.   There are even rules for the American Smooth with 3 lifts and so much of it having to be in hold but pretty well anything goes in the latino dances such as salsa and Argentine tango and oddballs such as the Charleston.

I'd quite like to see some Boogie and Bachata in the mix as they are great fun to dance and attractive to watch but mostly I'd like to see rues being observed and judges being dispassionate and objective.

There's plenty of entertainment provided by the dancers, the band and the guest performers and no need for any other messing about.

Sometimes, as I live in France I watch the French Strictly. It's all for show and they break all the rules - as usual! Standard isn't so high and there is only one serious judge. One gives 9s and 10s for everything.

    I still agree with Claire.

I thought Pixie was better than Simon in the dance off and so did Bruno and Craig. She was also the best in the Waltz.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Claire Ido not fall out with any one these days though as an engineer Ido like the standards to be high. If I was baking a cake you would get the basic recipe right befor decorating it, so with dancing get the foot work correct and the whole becomes very watchable the frilly coating once the basic cake is cooled on the wire.

len has more dance experience than  all the others put together, he must feel as I did when young graduate engineers came in wasted a million pounds and my team then had to put it back working, you need an old head at the top and he called

Sorry about this it all just vanished, I was saying Len called it right on dance ability. The best dancer Caroline will be there in the final.

I have been a huge strictly fan from the beginning and still love it but no formal dance training or experience.  I think the show can be what you want it to be! which can be different for different viewers. For me it's a bit dance competition, a bit popularity contest but mostly just good, wholesome family entertainment.  But my lack of formal training doesn't stop me from recognising a good dancer.  Caroline to win!

  • Wow! Caroline image....that salsa has to be up there with Jill Halfpenny's jive. Magnificent and fully worth the four 10s it received.

Another brilliant show, what a shame for the lovely Karen who thought she had let Mark down. image

On tonight's showing, I think it will prolly be Mark & Jake in the dance-off...can't call who will go.

  • Wow! What a salsa to finish! Amazing!

still reeling from Pixies exit, she was a much better dancer than Mark or Jake, would Be a better final with her in it!image
