I like the idea of spraying the flies with water to slow them down I hate fly sprays.. Im so into chopping slugs in half. My OH read in paper that slug pellet sales have gone up 74% this year!! Im sooo loving my two foot supersoaker I just have to pick it up and my two wee terriers shut up its brilliant but where are the local cats word must have got out.. Beautiful day here.
Weejenny, make your boys do their own washing - mine do!
I'm also into chopping slugs and don't get me started on ants! There's a huge nest in my coldframe.
Kate, try potatoes in the ground next time. Its true the potato bags are over-rated.
Need to shop for OH's birthday present on Amazon. Might get No.2 son to organise it for me - in exchange for the lift to the station he wants at 7am on Saturday!
Lottie I was brutal the other week-I had a pot in the cold frame picked it up and it was covered in ants- no wonder the plant wasn't growing properly- poured boiling water over it- killed the ants and fed the ant-eggs to the chickens.
The plant had already had it-it was when I tipped it to see if there were any roots the ants were visible-the hot water kills them-the cold water lets them swim away
A bit of sunshine does us all a world of good! I put my spaghetti strap top on at the plot, it was so warm.
Geoff - I'm with you on ants but I don't have access to boiling water at the plot. The ants have made a massive nest in my salad crop. There are big and little eggs. I won't eat that salad now, it will be chicken feed.
I have been given a lovely lettuce by another plot holder - such a friendly bunch.
Well our sun has sort of gone in. Was really warm before- why did I have a shower this morning? When I knew I was going to get arse up, sorry Geoff, in various beds doing a 'slash & burn' of the 'gone over' stuff. Wheely bin soooo full, & still have loads to do. Think will bag it up once bin full again. Some shall compost, but need to sort out my bins as wasnt allowed to do the usual February empty/toss between them.
I did end up sat out with a book when down came the big splodges. Am trying not to smirk as neighbour having her drive re varnished, for the umpteen time. Bossman was very apologetic about the garage door- & so he should be. I do actually feel a wee bit sorry for the bloke, as he does have a living to make & this weather will not have helped him at all.
For once no obvious ant nests at the back. One at the front by wall, normal place & not a problem. I'm a boiling water person as well! Remember my Nan getting very cross with Dad when he wouldnt let her go down her garden using a walking frame & carrying a kettle of just boiled water! J.

Just gone round with a flame gun heating up the weeds -there may have been a few ant and woodlice casualities

The plant did not live
I do not sleep at nights
@Geoff surely cold water would also have worked and you would have saved the plant?
