Neighbour going on holiday I think, so by the time she's back I'll probably have done it myself. Ok not house proud, but there was nothing wrong with it before yesterday! It's a real pain with workmen, which is why I only reluctantly get any in! Mind you I have a couple of heavy duty buckets that got left one time on my property- excellent for storing garden canes & such like in the shed!

The rain has been really heavy again & my glorious poppy has been flattened, despite being staked! It's got 3 huge blooms out & another 5 to go! Not bad for £1! Oh well shall try & sort tomorrow, if I get a chance, otherwise it'll be monday. Oh blast, just remembered expecting parcel delivery on monday- think note on door may be in order. At least with Tesco you know approx when will arrive.

Eek, the rain is torrential now!

Wonder if I can get a look at the forecast for tomorrow before get all prepared for this picnic? J.

Yes I know Manchester should be dryer- honestly couldnt be any wetter than today!- but we want to go into Wales to a NT property which we've not been to for years. Daughter cant remember it at all, but she has been there.

We shall see. Cost of eating in a NT restaurant usually a bit pricey, but why not? is my way of looking at it. OH, no, considers it daft. Got goodies to take & easy to make butties & a flask etc. Suspect decision will get made tomorrow, but will suggest thaty we do actually watch a weather forecast sometime this evening.

BTW have taped Primeval. Can scare myself one day next week! image J.

Picnic trip was abandoned. Daughter pointed out that to sit on soggy picnic tables wouldnt be much fun so would need to be in the car! OH didnt fancy that, so we had the picnic, plus wine (!), inside at lunchtime.

I now have more security on this pc- whoopee.

Neighbour was found cleaning our wheely bin! When asked why? she replied that the workmen had said I'd moaned about the state of it!! I soon corrected her about  that & what had really gone on. I've managed to do some cleaning of our garage door, using a wooden nail stick. Ironically neighbours', despite its' protection, is also a mess & her side gate is damaged! She is not a happy  bunny.

Have been out & restaked the poor plants that had flopped despite the supports.

Best of all, I saw our hog this morning! My shriek of excitement meant it scuttled away-oops- but pleeze hog keep eating the slugs as now no sunflowers, 2 chewed courgettes & no seedlings left in trays! J.

Good news about the hog--and at least your neighbour is making an effort. Too bad about the picnic--but at least you had a lovely restaurant meal!

I have been out staking as well--a mixed bag of weather here, and still quite breezy. Lots of detritus falling from trees onto the deck--the first of the summer long arbutus leaf fall. They need daily sweeping, as they are very slippery underfoot.

I had a very busy day yesterday lots of chores to do, but one turned out very pleasant , I walked to the shops to buy some bread and on the way back I complimented a lady on her garden and she gave me a plant that she says is an asterimage

I spent a couple of hours chopping back next doors russian vine, I still need another hour today but I will need to get the step ladders out.

As for Lotties party, what happens at lotties stays at lottiesimage

It all went really well in the end - after lots of last minute panics, including my friend coming round to re-cover the seats of the chairs she had lent me cos she felt they were too grubby! Other friend turned up with loads of fairy cakes and loads of table decorations - lots of cans and jars covered in pretty paper with flowers in them! They looked fabulous! Then another friend turned up with 6 large pots of new guinea impatiens! I also got 2 patio roses, one pink and one cream, and a bunch of lilies, so there are flowers everywhere.

The tables all had pastel or white embroidered cloths on them, the best tea services were laid out, and it looked lovely.

Weather was fine, even warm some of the time, the birthday cake had a picture of me on it aged about 7, and No.2 son made some lovely scones and whipped up some cream to go with them. One friend had made bunting and put pictures of me on it at all different ages! Party started at 3 and the last guests left at 10, by which time we'd moved on from the tea onto the wine, and my SIL was totally out of it and had become best friends with my friend from the Isle of Wight who she'd never met before!

One friend I hadn't seen for a while came with her daughter and 2 week old grandaughter, who was totally gorgeous.

Alfie and the chickens got fed all sorts of non- appropriate food, and I've somehow offered to look after the little boy up the road's pet newts when he goes on holiday!

All in all I had a thoroughly nice time, and there's still loads of cake left!
