Raking is a lot of effort. Might be all right for Monty who seems to like doing 'hard work' , just for the sake it it.

In contrast, using a blower does look 'easy' - you just wave it around; don't you. I guess it works best with dry leaves.

Council pavement sweepers, and mant contactors, use blowers, so they presumably work. I can't recall seeing what they do with the blown leaves.

Afternoon all. Nurse been, OH snoring in chair, daughter asleep & me on here!

Yes was watching QT last night..... anyway, bit nippy out there today & noticeable more windy. Washing flapping well.

We too have old video tapes, but recorder went to tip yonks ago. Yes some of tv progs, some bought & the odd bought one -not even watched in one case!

When we cleared Dad's house loads went to the local tip & his 'good' ones to the home he was living in. They still had a player & by all accounts they got used quite a bit- but the Dad's mind wasnt 100% so never sure. His old James Last lps & tapes went- they were the bugbear of my trying to revise upstairs days!

OH has arranged re the boiler- next week after all! So shall have to sort out the spare room first before I can empty the airing cupboard into spare room........Help!!

Bath & shower end of Nov. OH planning to try taking some tiles off this afternoon, when daughter awake- must remind him re dust sheets & fish out his OLD clothes- I know what he's like.image

Just had to sample his latest version of Lemon Drizzle cake- hmm, cant tell if better than his usual one, 2 pieces next time maybe? J.

bjay- the leaf blowers/hoover are fine if the leaves are dry. Otherwise unless a strong OH/man around a bag of damp leaves over your shoulder is HEAVY. IF the leaves are damp too it gets blocked with bits of soil etc, so needs constant unblocking. Cant remember the last time I used ours...... oh & it helps to have raked them up into piles before anyway so easier to get sucked up. Oh & if not careful small seedlings/recently planted things can also end up being sucked up....

On a +ve side they do chop the ;leaves up well, so that they rot down more quickly, but then so does running a mower across them spread on the lawn..... So yes IME more -ve than +ve.

I have a shredder, 2cnd hand that was a 'gift' from someone. Have never used it & somehow dont think ever shall. Freecycle methinks. It does work & have a couple of spare cutter/blades, so that's good. J.

  • Chillly here but I will be venturing out shortly. I'm struggling to sort out a mammoth pile of paperwork today, and have just discovered that everything's been filed in the reverse of what it should have been! Goods out paperwork has been filed as goods in and vice versa. No order to it either so not sure what samples we have here and what we haven't! This may take some time - or I might just give up on it!

We gave away old videos on freecycle but they were mostly Disney ones - and someone wanted them for his grandchildren.

OH has just phoned to say his aunt has died. He wasn't that upset though as she was very elderly and he didn't like her!! I guess that's honest!

    Afternoon all.

Sun making an appearance every now and then here.

I put a job lot of videos on ebay, about 70 if I recall rightly. No interest whatsoever. I must have re-listed them 4 or 5 times before someone bought them for 99p! I still have a player, as Jess has lots of kiddie videos, but modern formats have totally took over now.

Jess's last day at nursery for a week. Glad really. Means I can get out and get dirty next week, without having to worry about time and dropping her off/collecting her. image

It's treat day for her as well. Wonder if she'll go for comic or toy? image

  • I've just taken a load of old videos to the tip, it's just no worth the effort of trying to get rid of them. Still holding on to Starwars, though, don't know why, just can't bare to part with them.image I think we still have a video player somewhere in the loftimage

I don't eny you the boiler job Jo. We are upsidedown at the moment, you just don't know what to do with everything, but it will be worth it when it's done, so I keep telling myself.

Lottie-can't you just "accidentally" knock the paperwork on the floor and everybody will rush to your aid and help sort it?

Jo -will send emergency aid-extra blankets and such like, warm drinks ,hot soup..........

    Becks-comic with a free toy?

I've seriously never seen Star Wars all the way through-Chris I would keep you clothes on if you can't bare to part with your copyimage

Yep realise that as well as spare room/ airing cupboard the understairs area- big & full- will need emptying to allow access to gas meter & central heating pump & pipe work. So unlike when they came t'other week I REALLY will have to empty out EVERYTHING!!!!!

Boy am I glad that I didnt do my 3weekly dusting this last week- too busy in garden, thank goodness, as wouldnt be impressed if I'd wasted my energy doing that!

Have just fished put an old shirt & sweatshirt for OH & when can make some noise upstairs will get an old pair of jeans out. Did tentatively suggest that wouldnt tomorrow morning after shopping be better to start removing tiles........? but no chance! image J.
