  • Goodness me what a busy day the forum was yesterday taken ages to read it all. Feeling lousey today so hoping a pub lunch will cheer me up. Have decided to clear out the attic. Does anyone know what to do with old video tapes? will probably have to take them to the tip. Made a bread and butter pudding last night not had one for ages and it was lovely so good there is none left. perhaps i will attempt a sponge this weekend. Trouble is they dont last very long. The daughter is off for half term so will be out and about with her next week.

Morning all sorry i'm late - swimming morning. Told today I'm much improved - didn't sink once image

I look foreward to mushroom of the day Gary.

Found some at bottom of rroad and neighbour was convinced they were field mushrooms but neither of us had the courage to try in case they weren't!

we have decided that in days of yore if a lot of different mushrooms were eaten then fairies were probably seen quite often!!

When I worked it felt like a different life. I call it my previous life. Found it took a while to get used to not being ruled by the bell though.

Don't think about it much now.

Gardening is much more fun -planning, getting rid of stress, shopping for it etc

    Maud-

I think even charity shops are now refusing old videos-I would offer them as a job -lot on freecycle-unless you have any unusual ones that are worth selling- before taking them to the tip-then it becomes someone elses's problemimage

I think you're right, Gary that there are a lot more fungi  about. I love they way that they are there but you often don't see them unless you really look.

The charity I volunteer with takes videos at one of the shops though only nice children's ones and popular adults' ones. Mostly we advise people to tip them.

  • A lot of them are things we have taped ourselves so goodness knows what is on them. They take up so much space. I also have all my daughters cuddle toys from when she was a baby, 4 dustbin bags full so whilst she is off will go throught them all and then down to charity shop with them. I still have my first teddy and im now 51 and a bit. Hes called Bo Bo and ahs 1 leg longer than the other from where he was left to dry on the washing line.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, Maud, but charity shops can't sell the toys unless they have the label with the CE safety mark on them. If they have a 'rag man' who disposes of unwanted 'stuff' they may be able to put ones without a label in a bag for him (or her!) and get a few pence.

I'd like to know what to do with old tapes too. A lot of mine are stuff taped from telly. I recorded loads of stuff with the intention of 'watching it later', but often never got round to doing so. And by now, I'm not that interested in whatever's on them. The quality of VHS compared with HD TV is very poor too.

I haven't got a VHS player that works, even if I did want to watch any of them. Working players are hard to come by too.

I suppose one might be able to make use of the tape for something. It might be quite strong. I'm sure it's not biodegradable.

It breaks-for those with long memories- like cassette tape that was always found wrapped round trees

I still have a VHS recorder but it hasn't been used for years- quite why I don't know-I might need it one day?

We have loads of old tapes too. Mostly things we recorded and kept because it was interesting. Cuddlies went in a table top sale. Still hard to sell though.

OK Forkers advice needed. I have a lot of leaves to clear, I have the rakes but are leaf blowers a good idea or a waste of space and money?  We do have quite a lot of leaves. Whatdo you all think?

Leaf blower-you are going to use it at most for 1 month a year-off and on-you can hoover up the leaves from the grass using a mower on a high setting-that also chops the leaves a bit-ok you have to empty the box but you have to empty the bag on a leaf blower

Exercise from raking and sweeping-to me unless you can share with neighbours and share the cost it is a luxury item.
