My Mushroom of the Day. A pretty little thing growing in my lawn..

    http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/falcosubbuteo/fungus6.jpg

Probably one known as Panaeolina rickenii. Book says - often found in lawns and parks, inedible. But there wouldn't be much to eat on it, even if it was edible.

Am not sure if the frost forecast for tonight will materialise. Though still intend to complete final bringing-in of tender stuff today. And may cover up some big lily pots that are too heavy to move, and which I'm leaving outside.

Am off to Sainsburys soon. Doubtless the place will be full of pumpkins and other witcherynalia.

  • Good morning folk.

    Hope all are wellimage

The plasterer arrived prompt at 8 this morning, so it's all go at the moment, should be finished in one day. We have to go out the front door, round the front and in the back door to get to the kitchen, good job it isn't raining, but at least we have got a small sitting room to use.

There is fungi appearing all over our garden at the moment, some from the compost used to pot up plants before planting out and some from wood we have used to edge veg garden beds. They are all different and interesting in their own way.

I seems a bit quiet here today, where is everyone? are you still in bed Geoffimage

See you all later, cyberly speaking...

Morning all. Gary - just how many mushrooms and toadstools have you got living in your lawn image bet you've got a fine selection of elves and fairies living in there too. I really look forward to Mushroom of the Day .

Not a bad day here - no sign of the frost that was forecast last night but everything is covered and in now so should be ok. Just hope it doesn't see off the cobaea bud. I'ld like to see at least one flower seeing how I've waited all this time.

Booked in for flu-jab at supermarket next week. They say I'll have to wait until cough clears. I sound like a London docker ! image Hope Kate is feeling better today.

I'm off to shops as well. image No cake left. Have a nice day each and all.image

Ps. Love the laces Geoff. image

Good morning all. Really cold here.

I wonder if Gary could identify this fungus. Took this photo this morning. Strangely in spite of the damp weather not too many toadstools about. I'm usually picking lots of field mushrooms by now but not a sign this year.

Hell Jean and Pam-------Pam where have you been?

From all accounts the cold snap will be fairly brief-a couple of frosty nights then back to the wet stuff

Morning all. Have gone into hibernation mode and only emerging slowly this morning. Have also been dealing with email backlog.

Dull here and noticeably colder. Have not spotted many fungi either, so it's nice to see Gary's fungus of the day. If the two very phallic ones I noticed on my dog walk route are still there, I'll offer those as my contribution.

Glyn, I feel for your pain. I am so glad I finished when I did but can't believe it's nearly two years ago! Hope you escape early. I used to look forward to  my Friday-evening-wash-away-the-week bath with wine, music and sometimes even candles - four of course ;- )

  • Sorry for being AWOL. Hope I don't get put in jankers.

It's difficult to be certain about any mushroom. That one looks a bit like one called Handkea excipuliformis, also known as Pestle Puffball.

It's not easy to take photos of mushrooms. Because they are light coloured against dark earth, the detail is often washed out on the photo. And because they are also often in dark places, it's sometimes not easy to get a sharp image. I'll try to find some more today. I'm sure there a lot more about.
