I've got too much water, my trugs and watering cans are all outside collecting water. I don't have space for water butts, but we are having problems with water coming off the hills and into my garden under the wall from the neighbours. Their house is housing association property which tends not to be very co-operative. I live in a row of 4 cottages built in 1795 so I am worried about the effect that all this water might be having. Think it might end up as a solicitor job!
Good morning all, same here Penninepetal. It has rained for most of the night so all the barrels, buckets etc are full. We are off to the garden centre later to buy tulip bulbs. I want some Prinses Irene after seeing them in a planter at Sissinghurst in April. They look like flames, and I thought very different, and want to see if there is anything new in the bulb line. Might even have a coffee and cake.
Good morning and welcome Dovefromabove. I also had heavy rain last night but sunshine this morning.
My neighbours start to build their home office in their garden tomorrow so today is going to be my last day of quiet gardening. They came around to show us the plans,it looks like one of those summer houses you see at Chelsea. They are going to fix trellis to our adjoining fence for some privacy, so I need to have a word with my climbers.
I like the sound (no pun, honest) of your neighbours, Kate.....if only other people took the trouble to involve & discuss their plans with their neighbours, much animosity could be avoided.
Morning Kate, sun came out here for 5 minutes and then decided it had had enough. Popped out into the garden and everything is soaked. I brought lots of seedlings from my step-daughters and desperate to get them planted, but the slugs and snails are everywhere and I worry that they won't survive.
Just watching BBC News - Chris Akabusi looking very smart this morning.
I am sure your climbers will rise to the challenge, Kate!!
Morning all, I thought I had the weather thread by mistake all this talk of rain. Just posted on there because as usual the forecasters just cannot give an over all picture of our area, far too many variants from "Rains" Hills across the river Tees along the coast to us on the rise up to Durham and out over the Dales to Penninepetal. My son lives in the vale of York and tells me they get frost before most other people, they also get more heat though when it is warm like today. Better shut down for awhile and get lunch away, finish the work I started then with luck sit and warm my toes in the garden, probably end up hopping round on one foot pulling weeds.
Morning Frank, you're right, let's stop talking about the weather and depressing ourselves. Always look on the bright side of life, eh? De dum, de dum,de dum,de dum,de dum.....
David our neighbours mentioned their plans 6 weeks ago and every week they have given us more details, including the start date of the builders and the hours they expect them to work. This level of consideration is rare around here.
Foxgloves, a pretty little perennial geranium, verbena bonariensis ( hardly a seedling quite big), hosta. Probably others too, she just throws the seeds in trays or they have self-seeded.
I love geraniums and have lots of varieties, been wanting foxgloves, as all mine disappeared for some reason. I was going to collect some seeds from the wild ones on the verges around here.
Hello everyone, Lovely day today but trying to gets lots done outside as it's going to be awful again tomorrow. I've cut the grass and cut down some perenial geraniums.
Kate, you were right about the trailing begonias. I dug a couple up and there was no sign of a corm. I'll just have to try and keep them cosy over the winter. I hate throwing anything out if it will come back next year.
