Geoff I have sausages, potatoes, tomatoes and courgettes, what do you recommend?

I think Geoff gets his menu planning from Jess these days ;- )

Yes, we do get people nicking stuff and others who complain about prices. The nickers seem to think it's OK because the stuff was donated anyway. I had an 11 year old haggling over a price this morning! I gave in; I'm no good at all that stuff which is why I never go to car boot sales.

Well I never, it would never occur to me to haggle at a charity shopimage

There is a sign in the Oxfam shop that staff are not allowed to change prices.

Kate-sounds like cowboy dinner to me with tomatoes instead of baked beans-don't like courgettesimage

I am worried about the news that Barbie is coming out-I always thought she like the chaps-Ken in particular- not the chapesses-but such is the way in this modern world-she is confusedimage

OK a little history and an update.

I have a new build garden and I started with 100% lawn, each year I have stolen another 6 inches as I bought more plants but eventually I suggested to OH that a circular bed in the middle would look nice, but his OCD would not cope so I have a square bed dead in the middle of the lawn. He insisted on colour and I have finally got there so I thought I would share it.

When I showed Geoff a photo of the square bed dug out he said it looked like a grave.image

Nice island bed. That's far more interesting than a boring expanse of lawn.

I'm a big fan of making beds in lawns. It was an innovative trend some years ago, popularised by Alan Bloom. I have all of his books. Obviously you need a lawn big enough to take a bed to start with, but then it's bye-bye lawn.

'Island beds' is the proper name. Once you've got one, you can actually add more, like a small pond, or whatever you want.

Technical point - the boundaries should be curved - you'll get there.

Kate that looks lovely - I just can't grow dahlias , tried everything but slugs and earwigs always get to them. They are dahlias aren't they ?

    I have neopolitan ice-cream.

Jean I do not watch sad films either.

I'm a lapsed season ticket holder, I still go quite frequently though. Won 3-1 today which I wasn't expecting, am really glad the new season's finally here.

    Who do you support Kate?
