Bob, my H says that. I just thought he'd made it up.
If a sky only has a bit of blue,we ask is it enough to make a sailor a pair of trousers ?
Don,tknow where it came from, but my Gran used to say it.
My Gran said that too Gilly - she came from south London.
My Gran was Somerset born and bred Forester...........these sailors must have got around
Gilly, I'd guess that would come from the days when sailors wore bell-bottoms (obviously requiring a lot of material.)
My gran also always said- there'senough blue to make a sailor apair of trousers- but she came from Yorkshire......................those sailors more than knew how to get around
I've heard of the one Bill's mother from a Yorkshire friend.
My mum used to say shepherds warning one.
Look before you leap. Does that count?
Also something about mickle and muckle????
Sing before breakfast cry before night
Lily- it's 'many a mickle maks a muckle'
A lot of a little makes a lot!
